Auto Tech Students Install Bus Seats from Superman Movie

by Cody R. (Leland)

We’ve accomplished a great number of things in this month of January. Throughout the month the Auto Tech class has been working on a few different projects, one of them being the IVVC school bus, which is mostly used to transport the Building Trades students to job sites.

We repaired the heater located in the back of the bus and proceeded to change out the seats. The seats we were to install came from a bus that was featured in the upcoming Superman movie, filmed not too far from here. First, we reupholstered the seats and moved on to installing them in the bus. Although a few challenges were presented upon the way, with a few modifications and the tools to do so, the seats fit right in. We then decided to start on the bus exterior. We’ve currently been repainting both the front and rear bumpers of the bus.

In the classroom, first year students have been learning about the electrical aspect of our modern day vehicles, and second year students have been learning how to work on a vehicle’s transmission.

On January 27, we had a former Automotive Technology student, Mark Pavlovcik, visit and give a presentation on the advantages this class presents to students as well as the careers available after schooling. In Mark’s case, he moved on to a one year program at UTI and soon accepted a job offer with Ferrari. He explained how a lot of what he does working with Ferrari is not that different than what we do here at our very own auto shop. With the right attitude and the determination to succeed, the career you’ve always wanted is not as far away as it may seem.
