IVVC Awards Night - May 14, 2015
Indian Valley Vocational Center (IVVC) hosted its annual Awards Night on May 14, 2015, at Timber Creek Conference Center. Local and memorial scholarships were presented as well as recognition of SkillsUSA award winners and Technical Honor Society members, and one and two year perfect attendance recipients. Recognition of graduating seniors with certificates of completion was the highlight of the evening. Several hundred family members and friends were in attendance to congratulate all of these students on their accomplishments.
Scholarships were awarded to the following students: WCC Gustafson Scholarship–Taylor Ordonez (Sandwich); Ray Larsen Memorial- Hailey Russell (Sandwich); Sandwich Rotary Club- Kyle Eighner (Sandwich); Marcia Murphy Memorial-Courtney Murphy (Sandwich); Connie Olson Memorial- Caili Payne (Yorkville) and Zach Katzal (Plano); Doran Greif Memorial Automotive- Kevin Klock (Newark); Rose Greif Memorial Cosmetology- Kami Bahl (Somonauk) and Michael Thornton (Newark); Karam Family Memorial (split five ways)- Renee Farren (Yorkville), Jason Kidd (Paw Paw), Cole Lappe (HBR), Austin Meyers (Yorkville), and Ryan Moody (Sandwich); John Kedzierski Memorial- Saul Pantoja (Sandwich)
Recognition was given to those students who won top awards at the State SkillsUSA Conference in Springfield-Extemporaneous Speaking 3rd Place- Kylie Minick (Sandwich); Architectural Board Drafting 2nd Place-Kyla Stephens (Earlville); Effective Listening 2nd Place- Jacob Buri (Sandwich).
Indian Valley Vocational Center Technical Honor Society members were honored at a special ceremony at IVVC on April 21st where they received Certificates of Achievement. These 85 juniors and seniors maintained a cumulative 3.0 GPA at their home schools and a straight A average in their IVVC program for the 2015-2016 school year. Their pictures were posted at the Awards Ceremony for public recognition as well.
One year perfect attendance certificates were awarded to 30 IVVC students. Two-year perfect attendance awards were presented to five students: Carter Atkabowski (Yorkville), Jonathan Farthing (Plano), Jocelyn Gama (Sandwich), Monique Italia (Sandwich), Julie Penman (Paw Paw).
Seniors from IVVC’s 15 career and technical programs were presented with certificates based on 450 completion hours for first year students and 900 hoursfor second year students. The following students were recognized as Most Outstanding in their programs: Auto Body Repair- David Garcia (Sandwich) and Kevin Ledger Jr. (Serena); Auto Technology-Jason Kidd ((Paw Paw) and Renee Farren (Yorkville); Computer Technology-Drew Bohnstedt (Sandwich) and David McDonough (Yorkville); Construction Technology- Noe Guzman (Plano); Cosmetology- Hailey Mauricio (Yorkville); Culinary Arts-Michaela Jelinkova (Yorkville); Drafting and Design Technology-Ryan Mahara (Somonauk); Early Childhood Development- Kaylee Nash (Sandwich) and Caleigh Blue (Somonauk); Fire Science-Zachary Peters (Sandwich); Graphic Design and Digital Technology- Jewel Hupe (Plano); Health Occupations CNA- MacKenzie Kolka (Sandwich), Brooke Buczkiewicz (Leland), Rebecka Gardine (Yorkville) and Vanessa Sanchez (Sandwich); Law Enforcement- Benjamin Roberts (Indian Creek) and Staci Caho (Yorkville); Sports Medicine/Management-Alexis Maxwell (Leland); Welding and Fabrication-Coleton Rissman (Indian Creek).
The following students were recognized as Most Improved in their program areas: Construction Technology-Tyler Jablonski (HBR); Cosmetology- Cinthia Lopez (Sandwich); Culinary Arts- Mariah Downer (Somonauk); Fire Science- Erin Kramer (Yorkville); Graphic Design and Digital Technology-Jessica Cinfio (Somonauk); Welding and Fabrication-Wyatt Knoble (Sandwich).
Indian Valley Vocational Center is a career center for high school juniors and seniors located in Sandwich. Eleven school districts (Earlville, Hinckley-Big Rock, Indian Creek, Leland, Newark, Paw Paw, Plano, Sandwich, Serena, Somonauk, Yorkville) participate in the Indian Valley cooperative which currently offers 15 career and technical programs.
