If you are creative and like computers, you belong in Graphic Design. It is an amazing class with terrific students and a supremely awesome teacher. Ms. G is a hardworking teacher who loves to teach her students new things for them to learn while she herself is also learning new things!

Since Ms. G has come to IVVC, new opportunities have been opened to us. We have done actual live work from creating shirt designs for ‘Just Giants Rescue’ to making cost pamphlets for Mary Kay...So fun!! This year we had the opportunity to visit Tribeca Flashpoint College in Chicago that taught us that design is taking something and making it your own. An example, something you can try yourself, take some basic uncooked (cooked would just give you a headache you don't need) spaghetti noodles with mini marshmallows and try to construct a building or some type of structure. This was something Ms. G learned from Tribeca. The project had brought even the most shy and non-talkative people out from their shell making even more friends.

To say the least Ms.G goes the extra mile for her students, so any parents and/or guardians reading this...your kids are in good hands. A very exciting tidbit - several students applied to go to Tribeca College next year, and so far, one has been accepted! We’ve also had another student accepted to Benedictine College! We are so proud!!

At the end of last year, our program was awarded two grants that allowed Ms. G. to purchase new equipment to improve the class and what she was able to teach. This allowed us to learn photography, the newest unit to the class. Along with the new cameras, we have received new Mac computers, a larger printer for larger projects, and a new vinyl cutter which is what we use to make shirts designs and decals.

Every student who walks through the door will be greeted by friendly faces and by the end of the year they will never be the same - in a good way of course - especially if they've never been to the Sandwich fair. We participate in the art competition as a class, or individual. Our first year as a class we got 2nd place, second year we got 3rd place, maybe next year will be the year we place 1st.

So, like I said earlier if you’ve got the creative heart and are comfortable with computers, Graphic Design is the place for you. Just walk through the front doors at Indian Valley Vocational Center, take a left at the end of the hall and it's the first class on your right. Plus don’t worry if you think you're too different or weird and won't fit in. That's okay; we like weird and different! We have it all from chicken enthusiast, cat enthusiast, Walking Dead obsessed, and cartoon lovers (Let's be honest, who doesn't love at least one cartoon?). So come on in. We’ll be glad to have you!‚Äč
