IVVC was the stage for a mass casualty simulation the evening of Monday, April 25. The EMT and Fire Science programs facilitated a training experience that involved students from IVVC and Fox Valley Career Center, the Sandwich High School Drama Club, and Waubonsee Community College Theatre. Several IVVC alumni returned to take part. Sandwich and Big Rock fire departments also participated in the collaborated event.

The scenario was a multi-vehicle school bus crash in which the high school basketball team fan bus ran off the road into a line of oncoming cars.

The training provided an opportunity for students to put the skills they have practiced all year into action. The controlled environment of the scenario allowed teachable moments for skill mastery; among those skills to establish incident command, suppress any fire found, stabilize vehicles, extricate simulated patients, set up triage, transport, and treat patients.
