The Auto Body class has been busy learning the basics. They have been working on everything from small dent repairs to welding practice. The shop is beginning to open for customer work. We just finished up our first larger project of the year. We painted parts for a Kenworth Semi truck. We painted the gas tanks, visor, and misc. other pieces for this truck. This paint got everywhere. Our spray booth has a nice purple hue from the overspray.

We will be replacing cab corners and rocker panels on a GMC pickup truck. Along with these repairs we will be repainting the bumpers and fixing rust on the truck. This project will hopefully go smoothly.

We will have some more time working on the Sandwich Fire truck this coming year as well. We will be finishing what was started last year by painting the rims and repainting the frame of the fire truck. Mr. Winters, our instructor, will also be working on some traditional gold leafing techniques for the fire truck’s final delivery.

Our class has also been tasked with painting backgrounds for the Chicago Brushmasters Charity auction event in March. We have been painting steel panels in a variety of colors and styles for artists to add some hand-painted pinstriping and airbrushed graphics. This artwork will be auctioned off at the World of Wheels event in March with all proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. So far we have completed about 80 panels for this event and looks like some more could be on the horizon.

This is going to be another exciting year in the Auto Body classroom with a great deal of work coming into the shop.
