Here in the IVVC Culinary Arts class, we have managed to do quite a few amazing things. Our students run a classroom business where they sell nutritious soups and salads to a local gym every week, and they also run a weekly buffet for the other IVVC students and teachers. The buffet menu is thought up, planned, and executed by the Culinary Arts students, based on what they would like to make and what the other students would like to eat. The students create their own recipes, so every week has new, unique dishes.

Through the business our class has brought in over $5,000; therefore we have been able to keep our business running with groceries. We also have been able to purchase new equipment for the classroom to replace some of the outdated items, and streamline some of our processes. We have just purchased a tool chest to store and house our stand mixers and all of their attachments and bowls.

The students have funded a trip to Joliet Junior College, and will be taking a field trip out to Chicago, renting out a whole restaurant, and having lunch, which is an amazing feat for a business run by high school teenagers.

Finally, through our business, we have been able to fund a teacher appreciation lunch for Thanksgiving, and were able to give Thanksgiving meals to two families in need right here in the community. This class - both AM and PM - has done amazing work, and has really set the tone for years to come.
