April was a very busy month in Sports Medicine!

On April 7, the Sports Medicine class hosted its 3rd annual 5k. The Fast & the Furriest 5k welcomed runners and walkers -- along with their pets -- and raised funds that will benefit Fox Valley Therapy Dogs Club and the IVVC Sports Medicine class. While the weather was not ideal, nearly forty two-legged and many four-legged participants completed the course. Dan Palmer of Schaumburg, and Maxzine Rossler of Big Rock were the respective top male and female finishers. Many other participants took home awards. Students also visited Waubonsee Community College on April 13 to learn more about the therapeutic massage and kinesiology programs offered, as well as hear from industry professionals in those fields. On Tuesday April 17, Deb Johnson, Occupational Therapist and owner of Steps for Kids, introduced students to the therapies that OT can offer a wide variety of populations. Students got to try out several different activities that would be used with pediatric clients.

Over the last several months, students have worked on resume writing and interview skills. This culminated in the last two weeks with seniors participating in mock interviews with community business partners. Through this process, students have learned skills that will benefit them moving forward. We would like to thank Mr. Garland King of the Sandwich Park District and Mr. Jason Robinson of Catalyst Physiotherapy for participating in the process!
