Auto Tech Year Culminates with Assembling Car for Needy Person
Spring has finally arrived at IVVC, and after a long winter we are ready! Auto Tech II has had a rewarding year. It started as usual with safety training, which led to auto transmissions, engine diagnosis, electrical, engine theory and repairs, and many lab days applying these classroom skills.
In February, four Auto Tech students had their skills put to the test while competing at Waubonsee Community College. Though they did not bring home a trophy, the day was a great experience!
We have some large projects that will finally be coming to an end. Some began even before 2nd semester started; now we are ready to reap the fruits of this labor.
First is a 1991Chevy S10 that a dedicated group of students is swapping a 350 Chevy V8 into. They are hoping to see it run at the drag strip.
The next project is a 2007 Chevy Cobalt that is getting a replacement engine and numerous upgrades along the way!
Last is probably the one project I am most proud of. We have been putting together a single parent car for a very deserving person that will benefit greatly from this. We started with a donated car, and then obtained a donated engine thanks to Whittaker Salvage. To help with the cost of parts, sponsor Denise Curran stepped forward. Some great Auto Tech students have worked very enthusiastically on this project.
We are very close to the completion of all these projects, and being able to bless some others along the way!
