Sports Med Students Help EMS and Fire Science Students Prepare for Entrance Exams
As part of their second-year program, Sports Med II students have multiple roles. They assist Mrs. Kreiter in the classroom with first-year students, they participate in IVVC’s work-based learning programs, and new this year: They create and deliver fitness plans to other IVVC students to help them prepare for the physical requirements of industry entrance exams.
Sports Med II students partnered with PJ Crotty, a personal trainer, and an IVVC Sports Med alum. PJ works for JC Health & Fitness, and generously volunteered his time to help one student research and create the exercise plans, then assisted all second-year students in delivering those workouts. Twice per week, Sports Medicine II students take on the role of personal trainer, and monitor, modify and ensure safe workouts with peers in two of IVVC’s public safety classes, EMS and Fire Science.
This cross-curricular activity would not have been possible without the partnership of an industry expert like PJ. Mrs. Kreiter and the Sports Medicine II students are very thankful for PJ Crotty and the opportunity to work alongside him!
