Students Learn Spine Injury Immobilizing from Experts
Sports Medicine students had the opportunity to learn skills necessary to immobilize an athlete with a cervical spine injury. Scott Rubo, a Lisle/Woodridge firefighter and paramedic, and Rob Blockinger, a Lombard firefighter and paramedic, visited our class and instructed students how to properly immobilize and prepare an athlete for transport to the hospital. Each student got to play the role of the athlete, as well as participate in various positions in the process. The takeaways from the day were: Keep the spine in line, the person at the head is in charge, and TEAMWORK is crucial. Thanks, Scott and Rob, for giving your time to be with us!
