Drafting & Design
Instructor: David Hoskins
Have you ever considered a career in architecture or engineering? Do you enjoy watching Mythbusters and would like to try projects similar to theirs? Do you like to create a design or think of ideas to improve an existing design? If so, then consider Drafting & Design to gain skills and ideas for a future career.
This program provides a learning focus with both the technical aspect of drafting and the creativity of your own design. A list of the fields in which knowledge and experience are gained includes architectural design, engineering, interior design, mechanical design (cars and machinery parts), surveying/subdivision design, and landscape design.
Hands-on projects are an important component of the course. Students design, construct, and test a bridge. Students also design and build a race car culminating in a test for the fastest one. These are just a few examples of the hands-on projects that add a depth of experience and learning to the technical study and computer work throughout the year.
First year students learn the fundamentals on the drafting board and progress to beginning computer-aided drafting (CAD). Second year students learn advanced CAD while using a variety of CAD programs. (21103A001 & 002)
