What’s Going on in Construction Trades?
The Construction Trades class is off to a good start with a great group of students working hard and learning a lot. The first year students are building a 10’ x 20’ shed for a client. We are learning framing techniques for the floor, walls, and roof. Soon we'll be installing the roofing, siding, and a garage door.
The second year students are working on independent study projects. Each student chose a project they wanted to learn more about or teach a concept to the first year students. Below, Construction Trades students discuss some projects they are currently working on:
Kole - "For my independent study I am building stairs for the fire science training course. This is new to me, so I am excited to learn and teach the other classmates how to build stairs."
Martin - "Independent study projects focus on a certain topic that we are trying to get better at or learn more about. My independent study was to wire a couple of receptacles that lead to a light switch that turns on a light. It was really fun and I enjoyed each process of the entire project and how every step leads to an important part, then to a finished project."
Bryan - "For my independent study project I’m installing vinyl siding on a dog house. I’ll have to show the first year students the steps leading up to installing the vinyl siding and how I did it."
Chris - "My independent study project is to show the first year students how to properly apply roofing shingles to a dog house."
