New Fire Behavior Prop for Fire Science
This year we have added a new fire behavior prop to the fire science training ground. To help students better understand how a flow path works in a house fire, we added the use of a Palmer Burnable Doll House to our training props.
The prop is constructed by cutting up two sheets of plywood into different shapes and sizes to build a miniature house. A fire is then started in the lower left room of the house and then different external and internal doors and slides are used to show how creating a flow path in a fire actually works. The students also were able to use a 2 ½ gallon pump can on the exterior and interior of the doll house to control the fire as it burned.
The doll houses were built by the IVVC Construction Trades class, which helped their students learn the safe use of shop tools.
