Students Journey to Become CNAs
The students in the CNA program at IVVC have been busy with learning and grasping new material and skills that will aid them in becoming certified nursing assistants. This year has been very distinctive in the way the material is being taught, due to COVID-19. Despite the differences, the girls have consistently exceeded expectations. So far, they have learned skills such as hand washing and applying personal protective equipment (PPE), which are critical skills in this field. They are currently working on transferring a resident using gait belts and a sit-to-stand machine.
They will continue to be taught skills, such as shaving a resident and giving a partial bath, in hopes of attending clinicals at a local nursing center. These clinicals will begin when they return from winter break, in January. The girls are passionate in helping others and making a difference within their communities. They are preparing to take the CNA examination at the end of the year to receive their certification and begin their journeys as certified nursing assistants.
