Construction Trades Builds a Shed
One of the projects that we are working on right now is building an 8 foot by 12 foot shed with three windows, electrical outlets and lights, and insulation.
We started off by framing out the floor then moved on to the walls. We then added the wall sheathing and started to work on laying out our common rafters, cutting them, and then finally installing them to the ridge board.
Next we laid out and cut our hip rafters one by one to their designated size and installed those. The last rafters we cut to finish our roof framing were jack rafters.
This week we are cutting and installing a sub fascia board. Next week we are going to be putting the sheathing on the roof as well as drip edge and felt paper. Possibly we will start the shingles.
Once we are finished with shingles we will be in the final stretch with just a few finishing details such as soffit, fascia, siding, the garage door, electrical, etc. This is a great first project for the year because it teaches first year students while reminding second year students how to do basic wall and floor framing, as well as getting us comfortable with the power tools.
