Students Focus on Benefits of Exercise
Sports Med 2nd year students have focused much more on exercise this semester, from learning how the body uses oxygen while performing different exercises, to introducing first-year students to various fitness equipment in the classroom. We have discussed the importance of movement, especially during the pandemic, where sports and activities have largely been delayed or eliminated. Students have brainstormed ways that they can incorporate movement into their day so they can aim to stay healthy.
After an introduction to the equipment, second-year students chose pieces to use, and planned a 45 minute workout to deliver to the first-year students. They were instructed to keep the intensity low, since students are required to keep their masks on during activities.
Both groups are continuing to learn about the importance of exercise and movement as they near the end of their high school careers, where exercise is largely planned for them through their sports. The goal is to have a basic understanding that you don’t have to run a marathon to reap the benefits of exercise - every little bit adds up!
