Back in the Shop, Students Apply Skills!
Well, what has been happening in Auto Tech 2?!! The obvious overlying issue of this year of 2020-2021 will be remembered by all students of the pandemic, but through all of this many positives were happening, from the beginning of learning the basics, to the not necessarily tough diagnosis, but challenge of dealing with rusted brake lines to broken bolts.
It has been a breath of fresh air to be able to be back in the shop environment where all the ‘book skills’ that were taught in the abstract and through video were finally able to be applied. Many students took this to another level. Some of these projects were installing radical camshafts in a 2008 Ford Mustang (this is actually a very delicate job and many chances for disaster were apparent), and let me tell you the engagement in this project by the entire class was off the charts! (Ask Assistant Director Mrs. Edwards sometime about the noise of this project upon completion!!)
There were fun electrical and soldering projects, turning on lights with switches and relays, attempting to build a homemade amplifier for a speaker from a scrapped-out car, and perfecting our soldering skills! Many other things happened in the shop such as learning how to perform automatic transmission service with a transmission fluid exchanger, scan tool use along with other shop activities practicing and implementing many skills learned throughout the year!
