Graphics Students Reflect on First Two Weeks
“In my two weeks of attending IVVC’s Graphic Design course, I can safely say that I enjoy it. The environment is very comforting and allows for creativity to flow in the best ways possible.”
“Our teacher Ms. Fehling (Ms. G) is extremely pleasant, open to all ideas and loves Alice in Wonderland. I don't know if this is a green flag or not but hey, it's pretty cool. Her love and passion for Graphic Design really shows in her teaching and lets you know that she really does know what she is talking about. You can expect proper lessons on how to operate Adobe applications and create the best pieces that you can. It is amazing how she can juggle two different class levels while keeping each one satiated in their own areas of work. The emotional connection she shares with her students is unlike any other I have experienced and makes this classroom feel like a second home.”
-Rose, Somonauk High School (1st year)
“As an individual that has also been attending the Graphics Design course at IVVC, I can say with utmost certainty that I very much enjoy the competition in the classroom with The Bèzier Game - which gets even the second years involved in attempting to one-up the first years (they are succeeding). Other than the competition, everyone in the classroom is very friendly and helpful. At the time of writing this, we are in the process of learning the Adobe Program InDesign. Personally, I dislike how compact all the tools are, but other than that I get how all the tools work, such as pen tool, shapes, gradients, effects, scale, and arranging. Later in the year we will be learning how to use other Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator, which will be easier to learn since they have all the same tools as InDesign. All in all, I’m looking forward to the rest of the year to see how much I can accomplish.”
- Bea, Hinckley-Big Rock High School (1st year)
“When you are a second year (student), you will use all the skills you retained in the first year in live jobs along with clientele applications. There are a lot more hands-on activities such as T-Shirt designing & manufacturing, label making, photography, and customer service. Some other things that you do as a second year is that not only do you make all the IVVC program shirts, but you will also be working on projects for outside businesses within the communities of our home schools. Overall, the second year has a slow curve of workflow but once you get started it’s smooth sailing from there.”
