Back to Work!
As the Graphic Design class heads into the second semester, let’s reflect on the first. My first year students did a lot to learn the basics of how a Mac Computer works. They’ve all mastered the new interface and are using it like pros now. We learned all about InDesign which is a page layout program. Students did quite a few projects such as flyers, posters, and recipe cards.
Students even got to participate in the Franklin Mall Food Drive project. If you saw posters around the town just before the holidays, those were all created by these students!
Next we headed into Illustrator which is, well, an illustration program. The students started to learn about how to create their own illustrations which later, in second semester, they’ll get to use in full projects.
Since I’m a huge holiday person, we ended the semester with a series of wintery projects…Winter Paper Worlds, Gingerbread House Builds, and we ended with an Ugly Sweater design competition.
Second year students kept very busy with some advanced projects - but mostly our customer work! We’ve been very busy with outside jobs!!! The students have worked on apparel for some our classes here at IVVC, several different jobs for some of the sending schools, such as GSA Club shirts for Serena High School and Educator Rising Club shirts for Sandwich High School. We’ve also had clients such as Francesca’s Pizza in Sheridan, the Sandwich Area Chamber (Plano Bologna Day event), and Steps for Kids Children’s Therapy Services in Yorkville.
As we move into second semester, our first year students will embark on the understating and creation of custom logos. They will learn all about how to create them and the magic behind it. Second year students will continue their live jobs for our sending communities and work on some targeted marketing projects. We are hopeful that the second semester will be as great as the first!
