Emergency Medical Services
Instructor: Ashton King
Hello! My name is Ashton King, and I’m proud to be teaching the EMS program at IVVC. IVVC holds a special place in my heart—I graduated here in 2005 with my Firefighter II Certification and EMT-B license, setting me on the path to a lifelong career in Fire and EMS. After IVVC, I completed a year of general education at Waubonsee Community College before attending Paramedic School at Edwards Hospital. My Fire/EMS journey actually began at just 16 years old, when I joined the Bristol Kendall Fire Department as a Cadet. Once I earned my Paramedic license, I began working full-time as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the same department where my career began. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats—mentoring and precepting paramedic students, working in the Emergency Room as a Paramedic, and serving in the Kishwaukee EMS Office, where I provided continuing education to EMS providers and managed EMS licensing. I was responsible for ensuring NREMT and IDPH renewal requirements for all providers in the Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee EMS System. I currently hold an IDPH Paramedic License, IDPH Lead Instructor License, and certifications as an ACLS Provider, PALS Provider, BLS Provider & Instructor, as well as IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 FEMA certifications. When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me spending time with my husband, our three boys, and our five dogs—life is never boring in our house! This year marks my fourth year teaching at IVVC, and I’m more excited than ever to pass on my knowledge, skills, and passion to the next generation of EMS providers. IVVC gave me the foundation for a career I love, and my goal is to provide that same life-changing start for my students.
