Taking Coding and Design to a Higher Level

Hello IVVC Community!

I hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying the mild winter we have been having. Below is a breakdown of what is going on in January in Computer Programming.

 Programming:

We are starting to explore additional applications used by coders. This month we opened up EarSketch, which is an application that focuses on coding for sound production. Still using Python, students were able to “hear” their codes in action. Some of them downloaded mp3’s of their creations. We are also learning how to make objects collide and move using the mouse and keyboard. This skill is foundational in helping the students connect both the coding and game design portions of the class.

 Game Design:

For December, students were asked to complete scenes based on their choices. We saw a variety of creations that the students chose to do that ranged from characters to animated scenes. This month students are being challenged to create a magical house or room. Students have been working, daily, on adding moving objects, setting up the scene, and creating their ideal magic house. Many students took the challenge of picking a superhero power and making a room based on that. I am really looking forward to seeing where everyone takes these projects.

The students have been working extremely hard and have been becoming more advanced coders as well as 3D-Modelers. Their perseverance and problem-solving skills are helping them take coding and design to a higher level. I truly am impressed with their diligence.
