Construction Trades Learns Building Techniques Through a Shed Project
The Construction Trades class is off to a good start with a great group of students working hard and learning a lot.
The students are almost finished building an 8’ x 12’ shed for a client. We learned framing techniques for the floor, walls, and roof, along with the terminology used in the industry such as joist, stud, and header.
After the framing was complete we installed the architectural shingles for the roofing, followed by aluminum soffit and fascia. Next was the installation of three single-hung windows, the vinyl siding, and a garage door. After all of that, we worked on installing electrical for the client to have outlets and lights. Our last step is the insulation.
This project has been a tremendous learning experience and a success. In just a short amount of time, we are learning a little bit about many different careers in the trades.
