As the school year is winding down, so is the work in the shop. We have a full shop and making sure that all the projects get completed before the end of the school year is the plan.
We are currently working on a Chevy HHR that needed a new hood, front bumper assembly and radiator. There is also a Ford F-250 needing new bed cross-members installed, some minor work on the tailgate, and we are also refinishing the front and rear bumpers on this truck. Besides these projects, we have a student’s Mazda Miata that will be in for a complete paint job.
The HHR was in a front collision that damaged the hood, front bumper cover, and radiator. We have found a used hood, bumper cover, and radiator to replace the damaged parts. We had to paint the bumper to match the rest of the vehicle, but were lucky to find a hood that matched the original paint.
The F-250 turned out to be a bigger project than we initially thought. The cross-members that support the bed on the frame were rusted and pretty much completely gone. Small patches needed to be completed to be able to attach the new cross-members. The tailgate had a small bit of rust that we are cleaning up and repairing.
The student’s Miata already had a decent amount of work done on the vehicle at home before bringing it in to have the paint job completed. It will be getting a fresh coat of black paint and a little something special over the top: a holo-graphic flake sprayed over the black and then cleared. The flake will add a sparkle reminiscent of a bass boat in the sun. It will definitely be eye-catching once completed.
Finally, we are working on this year's classroom hood to be completed and signed by all the students.
