Welcome to Sports Med!
Welcome to Sports Med 22-23! It has been a busy start to the year for our students!
First year Sports Med students have focused on the various careers in the field, and we’re looking forward to our first guest speaker next week, Mandy Denny, of JC Health & Fitness. Since then, students have begun learning foundational terms and concepts related to human anatomy. We’ve focused on the skeleton, muscles, and terms used to describe the location of such structures. The best way to learn material is through hands-on, practical activities: students completed a t-shirt showing the various terms, and also created a life size drawing of their skeleton, where they categorized bones into groups, and labeled them using the correct scientific terminology.
Second year students have hit the ground running, starting their work-based learning the very first week of school. We are fortunate again this year to partner with Certified Athletic Trainers from Yorkville, Plano, Newark, and Somonauk high schools, where Sports Med II students attend practices and games and assist with injury recognition and care, and learn by observing and interacting in a real-world setting. From the sidelines of football games to the pre-game prep in the training room, students have the opportunity to learn from some of the best! We are grateful to all of our cooperating ATs!
