Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #6This school year the Construction Trades students at the Indian Valley Vocational Center undertake a huge and fun task! They are building a single-family ranch home right here in Sandwich, Illinois!! So far we have staked out the lot and started framing the floor deck of the structure. We were able to see the site excavated, the foundation poured and the structural steel set by professionals.
Most recently, we built the floor decking, then the exterior walls, and are almost finished with the interior walls. The next step for us is the framing of the roof system! The class works in teams to do assigned jobs/tasks each day.
It has been a great experience getting tons of hands-on experience working on this house. Getting yourself involved really speeds up the process and helps you really soak up all the skills and knowledge as you can. The Construction Trades class has a lot to offer and much more work to do and I am looking forward to it.
