For the last month Auto Body has been working on completing the Pink HHR project and continued to work on our 1965 Ford F-100 project. The Pink HHR has dominated the last month as the time crunch to complete the project on time kept getting closer. The F-100 has moved along in a slow fashion.
The Chevy HHR took a good portion of our last month to complete. Our customer wanted a wild Pink paint job to cover up the boring white that was already on the car. We had a little body work to complete on a few of the panels and once that was complete, we were able to prime those sections. We fixed both front fenders, both rear quarter panels and both rear doors. All the doors, hood and lift gate had to be removed before we could begin painting. In order to make the car look like it was always pink we had to first paint the inside door jams and inside of the doors, hood, and lift gate. Once those door jams were completed we could begin to paint the outside of the vehicle. This customer wanted us to also make this pink HHR even more unique. Mr. Winters got to do some hand-painted pinstripes down the side of the HHR as well as on the Hood and lift gate. The grille and hubcaps received a gold metal flake paint job to really add some more sparkle. When our customer came to pick up the car she was thrilled with the final product even wanting to hang around to tell the students in person how happy she was with the paint job. And get a picture with the PM session!
The Ford F-100 has been a slower project as the heavier metal of the 1960’s required more time and patience to get it to move for our repairs to look correct. The goal is to sort out the major body issues like dented hood, and drivers front fender. We are also working on patching the passenger front fender because the damage is too severe to repair. Mr. Moody and the Welding & Fabrication class are helping with this patch as it encompasses the entire front of the fender.
The end of this semester is coming quickly, and we are looking forward to more work in the coming semester.
