Construction Students Relay Building Experiences
A single-family ranch home is being built by the Construction Trades students this year. Here is what some of the 2nd year students have to say about their experiences:
“What I've taken away from building the house is the steps it takes from the beginning to the end, like foundation, then, framing, ect. Next, I liked learning about the special rafters other than common rafters. Another valuable takeaway is working through problems when things don't go as planned; this helps me get a better understanding of what needs to be precise and what can have a little wiggle room. Lastly the more effort you put in the more you take away - which helps with future knowledge for your occupation.”
Justin L., Somonauk
“I enjoyed building and framing the outside of the house. It was my favorite part because it gives us the walls and we can start doing many other things at once after we put the walls up. I have learned about how many different steps go into building a house that I didn't realize before.”
Coleton E., Somonauk
“One of my favorite things that happened while building the house is watching the growth of the house. Aso I loved the growth of friendships and the group's workability.”
Wyatt V., Earlville
“Things that I have learned while working on this house is that everyone really does have to play their part. If people start lagging behind it affects the whole workforce. Together we can make great progress. Additionally there are many opportunities to adapt and even more to learn. This project has shown the class and myself so many things. It is great!”
