Student Communicates Best Through Graphic Design
Graphic Design is the art or profession of visual communication that combines images, words, and ideas to convey information to an audience, especially to produce a specific effect. In other words, Graphic Design is communication design; It's a way of conveying ideas through visuals and designs.
As a first year Graphic Design student, I spent the year learning how to use InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, all Adobe applications. I learned the basics and put them to use in projects and jobs.
The highlight of my first year was the people I met. I’m not a student who works with a partner or group by choice as I prefer independent work. Most teachers don't have a problem with independent work so I never had to worry about it until my first year at IVVC. Graphic Design was different though. I learned that I can still be independent while doing a group project. My partners and I would all use our different styles of design and combine them all. It wasn't always convenient, especially when the styles completely contrasted each other. However, we were able to problem solve by working to use two styles to help convey two completely different ideas in one.
"Graphic Design is communication design; It's a way of conveying ideas through visuals and designs."
Year two of Graphic Design so far has been full of live work working with other classes and our sending schools making t-shirts, posters, hoodies, and all sorts of designs. When not working on live work, I spend class time watching tutorials, teaching myself new updates and tricks in Illustrator and Photoshop.
Graphic Design is an escape from the reality which I call my home school. Graphic Design gives me the ability to create anything that can be visualized. I'm not the best at long term projects because the second I visualize the project, it's an impulsive tendency to finish the project that day. It's amazing how fast time flies when designing. Having a time limit has always irritated me but the most satisfying feeling is seeing your design come together within the time you're in class.
Looking back at old projects has shown just how much I’ve learned just from being here from eight o’clock to ten twenty every school day. Like I said before, Graphic Design is visual communication, and it just happens to be that I communicate best through Graphic Design.
