March is National Athletic Training Month!
Athletic Trainers (ATs) are healthcare professionals who provide prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. During the month of March, we celebrate this profession and especially thank our partner ATs from our area high schools: Kaylyn Petzer (Sandwich HS), Alex Torres (Plano HS), Jensen Plata (Yorkville HS) and Brittany Baum (Newark HS). IVVC Sports Medicine students work alongside these individuals during practice and game coverage, and have become a valued addition to our program.
In other news, Sports Medicine students participated in our annual backboarding day with the help of two paramedics, Scott Rubo from Lisle-Woodridge FD and Rob Blockinger from Lombard FD. While backboarding protocols have changed in EMS, it is still a necessary skill for Athletic Trainers to be proficient in. Students learned the importance of teamwork, listening, leading and following during the exercise. Thanks, Rob and Scott, for another great day!
