As Auto Body gets further into spring, we are working to finish our long-term projects while fitting in additional smaller projects for customers. The two Ford trucks are closer to getting in the booth for some primer and paint, while we also worked on a hood for a Route 30 nostalgia dragstrip car. Additionally, we got a chance to replace a bumper and to repair the bedside of a Chevy Silverado. This spring will be busy until the end of the year to get these projects finished.
Auto Body student Aidan Byrne’s ‘89 F150 truck is just about ready for primer and paint. We have pulled the bed off and primed the bed after we patched in a new wheel well on the passenger side. This will be getting a factory original two-tone color of red and gray to bring this truck back to its former glory.
Auto Body student Dalton Sherman’s ‘65 ford has taken a different route; we are currently getting ready to install a new floor into the bed of the truck. Most of the body work is complete except the bed. This will be ready in short order to be primed. We are still in discussions on whether this will be painted this year or perhaps brought back next year for the final paint job.
Couple of smaller projects that we have seen come through have kept us busy as well: We are working on a fiberglass go-kart truck body that had some cracks. We will get that repaired and then painted white. We are in the home stretch of a Chevy Silverado that needed its rear bumper replaced and passenger side repaired. It also had some rust along the top of the windshield that needed to be removed and repainted.
We also worked on a 1969 Camaro hood that was an original US Route 30 dragstrip car from the late 60’s and 70’s. The customer needed the hood scoop and the center of the hood repainted to match as close to the original paint job as we could get it. We weren't trying to make it look new, just repainting a section that had to be repaired. The customer requested we leave the rest of the paint alone as it was an original survivor car, so the rest of the car's paint was no longer perfect after its time on the drag strip.
We have a few more projects coming in over the next month along with our two long-term trucks. Going to be a busy month in April to make sure that we get all this work done.
