Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #8It’s hard to believe that we are already into April! This year has flown by so quickly! In Graphics, though, we’ve been very busy!
All seniors are required to prepare a resume and participate in mock interviews. This is done in an effort to have students ready to successfully enter the workforce after graduation. Graphics was fortunate enough to have Josh Wilson, one of our Graphics Advisory Committee members, host our interviews. Josh has been helping out in the Graphics class for the last five years. He comes straight from industry and is able to provide valuable feedback, critique and expertise to our design students. Thank you, Josh!
One of our goals here at IVVC is to provide Team Based Challenge (TBC) opportunities for our students. TBC’s include all students in a given class, a “team based challenge”, and the expertise of an industry partner. This year, just before Spring Break, we completed our second annual Pizza Palooza, a Team Based Challenge. Pizza Palooza is a cross-curricular project with the Culinary Arts program. We divide our classes into teams, and together, a team of Graphics students and a team of Culinary students, come up with an entire pizza concept. From flavor to name to design, the students work together to achieve a finished product that both markets and tastes amazing! Once again, Josh Wilson came in and helped the students create some of their best designs yet. It was such a valuable experience for all of them! Projects such as these leave students feeling proud and accomplished, which is a win in my book!
As we move into the last part of the year, Graphics will be learning Photoshop and we might even be able to get some camera time in, once the weather gets a little nicer. Students will learn how to edit photographs and see what amazing effects Photoshop can offer to their designs. The second-year students will be working on building their portfolios and refining their design resumes so they are ready for the workforce upon graduation.
We’ve had a really great year - had tons of fun - and made some really awesome projects in Graphics. We look forward to finishing out this school year strong!
