The Auto Body class is winding down for the year and we are in the homestretch for projects. Aidan Byrne’s (HBR) 1989 Ford F-250 is in the assembly stage and on the way to being finished. Dalton Sherman’s (Sandwich) 1965 Ford F-100 is working its way into the booth to get primed. Smaller projects are also getting finished as well. We have a bumper for a Ford Mustang that needs to be painted matched to the car. We also have a Toyota Camry that needs to have its rear bumper and door handles refinished due to a buffing incident by its owner.
Aidan’s F-250 has been in the shop since late November. We are getting to the end and just need to complete the final assembly. The paint job came out good, and the red and gray two-tone looks like it did coming off the factory line. We had to patch the passenger side rear wheel well and had minor body work around most of the truck. This truck is looking refreshed and back to its former glory.
Dalton’s F-100 has been a bigger project than originally thought. Hoping for a small patch in the bed of the truck led to the center of the entire bed floor needing to be replaced. This took longer than expected. Overall, the repairs have been completed and we need to get the truck in the booth to get the primer applied. The bed has just been primed and next up will be the cab. Our goal is to get the truck in primer before the end of the school year with the final paint job completed during the following school year.
The Ford Mustang front bumper is currently yellow and the car itself is red. We have done our disassembly of the bumper and are preparing the bumper for final paint. This should be a quick turnaround and the bumper should be returned in time for the install so the mustang can be used for prom.
The Toyota Camry had a mishap as the owner was not familiar with buffing their vehicle and accidentally burned through the clear coat. When a buffer pad gets too hot it can get the paint so hot that it rubs through the paint called a “burn”. We will be painting the rear bumper and door handles to get this back to its original state.
The school year is quickly coming to an end, and we are in the throes of finishing these projects in as efficient a manner possible. We are running out of daylight and time is not on our side as we are finishing up, but we can get this done.
