EMS Students Learn about Patient Assessment, Pharmacology, & Emergencies
Since coming back from Winter Break, EMS has been busy learning about patient assessment, pharmacology, respiratory emergencies, and cardiac emergencies. During patient assessment students learned about how to perform a medical and trauma assessment which includes taking vitals. Pharmacology taught the students the medications they are allowed to administer, which included indications and contraindications. We have started medical emergencies with respiratory and cardiac emergencies, which are two of the most frequent calls EMS sees.
Other skills the students have learned so far this semester include IM injections, EPI auto-injector, 12-lead placement, CPAP, glucometer use, AED and CPR.
