Wide Range of Project Work for Auto Body Students
There is plenty of painting and sanding going on in the Auto Body class so far this year. The students have been working on their panel projects, teaching them how to repair scratches and dents along with proper painting techniques.
We have just recently opened up our shop and have begun to take on some small customer jobs. Our first job was on a Buick Lacrosse. It needed its hood and fender repaired and the front bumper needed to be replaced. The repair went smoothly and it is now ready for delivery.
The next job that was completed was an Auto Body student’s own car. We had to replace a fender and front bumper cover. The parts we got were used so we had to do some minor repairs and then we were able to complete the paint job and install the freshly painted parts.
While this was going on the students also completed their first take-home project. They got to paint a stainless steel thermal cup. This project helps the students learn to paint different shapes. Every vehicle is different, and students learned how to paint from different angles and why following the shape of an object while painting is so important.
We are also working on panels for the Chicago Brushmasters event at the World of Wheels car show in March. The Chicago Brushmasters have asked us once again to paint backgrounds for the artists to use for their auction pieces. At the World of Wheels they will auction off the artwork done by automotive and sign artists - with 100% of the proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Illinois. This is a great project for the students, and it helps out sick kids and their families in times of great need. We are very proud to be asked to paint these backgrounds for the Chicago Brushmasters!
There are more projects on the horizon. And more fun to be had in Auto Body this year. Stay tuned for more.
